No one likes continually hearing the doom and gloom stories about how we are ruining the planet.

 

But there is no point trying to shout about victories that are not happening. We need to highlight cases where conservation is carried out successfully, where failure has occurred, and understand why.

 

 We also acknowledge that traditional measures of academic success are not the true sign of conservation impact. New metrics that measure the real-world impact of environmental research need to be developed.
